Because You Already Know

What do you need to hear from me today?

Do you need me to tell you that it will all be ok? Because you already know that it will.

Do you need me to tell you that I am here for you. Always. Because you already know that I am.

Do you need me to tell you to release your guilt, your shame, your grief? Because you already know it’s not serving you.

Do you need me to tell you to lean into softness? Into gentleness? Because you already know that everything feels better when you do.

The truth of the matter is, my sweet, that you already hold within you the wisdom of ages. It’s as accessible to me as it is to you. We both draw upon the same well of compassion, of understanding, of acceptance. And that well is infinite in its capacity – it will never run dry.

So this is what I want you to do, dear one – I want you to find a quiet spot, a place where you can sit a while and find that still point within. Breathe into that place of stillness. Allow your breath to flow through you, focusing on nothing other than the quality of your inhale followed by the sensations of your exhale.

When you find that you have settled into the moment, into the presence of now, ask yourself the question: What do I need to hear today?

Sometimes the answer will arrive immediately and you’ll find yourself smiling in acknowledgement. Why, yes! Of course, that’s it; that’s what I needed to hear!

And other times, the response may be more hesitant. You struggle to trust that the inner voice you hear is really speaking the truth. Or maybe you feel as though the volume has been turned down, and all you can discern are compassionate whisperings.

Whatever your experience, stay with it a while. Allow the response to your question echo around your consciousness. Let it be absorbed into the very bones, the very essence of you.

Because, my darling, the truth of it is, is that you already know the words you need to hear. You contain within you the wisdom you desire. You can give yourself the gift of loving understanding.

And all you need do is breathe into that still place and ask.
