A Blogging Experiment
This blog is *vastly* under-used. And has been for a while now. So often I circle around the question of blogging, asking myself whether I want to blog, what would I blog about anyway, and what I should be blogging about. And then I don’t blog at all.
It strikes me that I have yet to find a form of blogging that really appeals to me. If it feels like a chore, I’m just not going to want to do it. If it’s not delicious, it’s not sustainable. So, what does sustainable, delicious blogging look like for me? This is the real question…
All this is to say that I’m going to be doing a bit of an experiment this week. At the end of the week, if it doesn’t feel delicious, then I’ll stop. But, for the next 7 days I’m going to give it a go.
So, what’s the experiment? Well, it’s a dalliance with lifestreaming.
A long time ago now, I wrote a post called What Has Grass Got To Do With the Web, which basically explored Deleuze & Guattari’s concept of the rhizomatic structure as a way of approaching digital text. You can read the article in its entirety, but basically, if you think about the structure of a blog, the pages are like trees (vertical, static, complete), while the posts are like grass (horizontal, unending, open).
Despite exploring these ideas years ago, it’s only just struck me how I can integrate this into my own approach to my website. Longer articles as pages, with the posts taking on the role of a lifestream: a yummy confection of Instagram images, poetic tweets, FaceBook thoughts, goddess guidance snippets, news, spotlighting articles, prose poems etc. A bit like a Tumblr or Posterous blog, but complemented by longer, more substantial articles.
What this will look like is multiple posts a day for a week, at which point, I’m going to see where I’m at and whether it feels delicious. If it doesn’t, I’ll end the experiment. But if it does, then I’ll be doing the happy dance and you can expect more.
Let the deliciousness begin…

I’ve been pondering the blog question also and have begun shorter posts, and thinking along the lines you are to just keep it moving moving moving…. Nice. We’ll see how it feels and how it flies. Jan 🙂

Sounds wonderful, even though I am not on twitter or facebook.

I gave up blogging a while ago, as I was wrestling with the same question. It’s still at the back of my mind though. Will watch your experiment with keen interest.

I have been giving the blog a good once over myself and taking a serious peek at the motivation behind it. You’ve inspired me to also embark on a bloggy experiment. Mine will be less blogging but with more kapow and focus. I’m starting to see a clearer picture. Like you, if it feels good then I’ll continue. If not I’ll move on.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Amy
Do you know, I think giving ourselves the freedom to experiment is *so* important. Otherwise we just slip into doing things by the book, and then, ultimately, resenting the book!

Im only coming to this lovely fun now!
I will have a good explore after this posting as I so very much get inspired by imagery and small snippets of your yummy words. (I have also been playing with my 1000++++ photos through pixlr and over)!! . I do love the idea of seeing what you do with a more tumblr like space & a change of tempo to the trees!
I too left the blogging world some time ago (I had 2) – the whole sustainable time frame thing really got to me. Add to this the fact that my current website , although lovely and simple to build (ish) has a far to basic clunky blogging publisher.
Thank you mrs leading edge Goddess, you may have inspired me to find a way to blog again too (well eventually – I gotta get some faster stitching going on)!!

I don’t think there is a right way or wrong way to blog/vlog/clog…. whatever! Despite what the experts would have us believe.
It’s about connecting. Which, as I have known you for so long, I can say with authority, you are an expert at.
Put your heart up here and don’t second guess it, because anything that flows out of you will be stunning.
Can’t wait to see what arrives here!
