A Day in the Life of a Goddess Guide
I struggle to surface from the depths of sleep as my beloved, already dressed in his motorcycle gear, leans in to kiss me goodbye. I murmur “ride safely”, before sleep rolls back in and I am once again adrift in my dreams.
An hour or so later, I hear the kids beginning to get up. Their soft giggles, gentle teasing and the sound of the kettle pull me into full waking, as my daughter pads through with a large mug of tea. She places it on the bedside table and we share our dreams and our intentions for the day, before she wanders away to fix her breakfast.
I sip my tea and read a chapter or two of whatever novel I have on the go. I’m enthralled by expressions of love, the articulation of pleasure and the dynamics of relationships, so sometimes it’ll be paranormal, sometimes contemporary, sometimes young adult, but it’ll always be romance.
Once the first mug of tea has been consumed, I finish the chapter I’m reading and then settle into my goddess meditation. Every morning I connect with a different goddess and she shows me, what I can only describe as, a movie clip with sensory extras. She’ll also give me a message – often very short and concise – but which usually relates to the vision she’s delivered.
Wrapping myself in my soft velvet dressing gown, I move to my computer desk that sits next to the window which looks out across the entrance to the deep harbour and the wide River Forth as it opens up to swallow the distant North Sea.
I quickly begin typing up the vision received that morning, introducing the goddess, her pantheon and her energy as well as communicating her message. I then search my Flickr photos for an image that I think complements the goddess’ message, and import it into my iphone. The I play with the image using the iphone all Pixlr Express+, before superimposing the message onto the image using another app called Over.
I then use this image to illustrate the goddess guidance reading for my group, and share the image on my blog, on Pinterest, Instgram, Flickr, FaceBook and Twitter.
As I’m currently hosting the Practical Magic Business Circle, I also add the same reading to that group but I add extra in order to show the application of the goddess guidance to birthing, developing, growing a beautifully supportive business.
Around mid-morning, I’ll often have a client call, either a Practical Magic session or a Goddess Guidance session. The Practical Magic sessions often take the form of a business jam where we explore different aspects of the client’s business, bringing in any intuitive hits that I get and any and all goddess wisdom that seems appropriate along the way. The Goddess Guidance sessions are an hour of time during which I hold the space for whatever the client needs to express about their relationships, their work, their self-expression, their desires, their health, their sexuality etc., again inviting in the goddesses to help bring clarity, support, inspiration, comfort.
The sessions are conducted through Skype, so my morning clients tend to be from Europe, and my afternoon and early evening clients from America and Australia. I love the international flavour of my work, and that I get to connect with women from across the globe. This feels like such an incredible blessing.
After my morning session, I’ll catch up with admin, FB messages and, I’ll admit, rather half-heartedly tackle my email inbox which is just a crazy mess. I’ll turn on Spotify for some musical motivation, and check in with the kids.
I home-educate my children, and we take an autonomous approach. This means that we don’t follow a curriculum, preferring to support our children to follow their passions. I feel very strongly that I am raising independent learners, and so I see my own role as facilitating the development of this in them by holding the space, giving advice, providing accountability, sourcing inspiration and bankrolling their various music/drama/sports lessons.
So, I’ll be checking in with them throughout the day to see what they’re up to, nudging them to practice their music, or work on their maths programme, looking over their work, suggesting activities and listening to them in conversation as they try out ideas, philosophies, possible projects.
Lunch has become a catch as catch can affair. Every man, woman & child for themselves, each descending upon the kitchen to assemble sandwiches, omelettes, nachos, toasties or, my own favourite, plain yoghurt with fruit, pistachio nuts & honey.
And then the sea calls to me. Early afternoons ideally see me walking out to the lighthouse, or along the coast to the supermarket to collect fixings for the evening meal. Cormorants skim the water, arctic terns dive suddenly and swiftly, gulls cry overhead, and the waves provide a constant soundtrack.
And then my second call of the day, followed by more admin, crazy conversation with the kids on topics as varied as unleavened bread, Slenderman, The Big Bang Theory, and how lions can’t be kings of the jungle because they live in the African savannah.
It’s also usually around this time that I get around to creating my selfie for the day. Using the camera in my iphone, I’ll take a number of images playing with the light that comes through the windows to my apartment. I’ll then use Pixlr Express+ again to play with the image until I find something I’m happy with. I’ll then share the image on Instagram, FaceBook & Twitter as part of my selfie practice. For me, the practice is as much about sharing the image as it is taking the image in the first place and creating something new with it.
My evenings are generally taken up with getting the kids to and from classes. I don’t drive a car and never have, and so we make good use of Edinburgh’s public transport system. Taking the bus across town, dropping the wee one off for his drama class then gives me 2 hours to sit in my favourite pub with my business journal. Here I’ll sit and scheme, asking myself questions about how I feel my business is growing, what I could be doing better and what resistance I’m encountering. If I’m not journalling, I’m reading more of that romance novel I was reading before I rose that morning.
Back home, I’ll serve up the dinner, and the kids and I will watch a comedy or a cookery programme on the telly. My eldest son has his heart set on becoming a chef and so he’ll sit with a notepad in his hand making notes, which the rest of us just sit and salivate.
Kids in bed by 9, I settle in with my kindle and a glass of red wine. My beloved eventually returns home and I sort out a late dinner for him and we catch each other up on the events of our day. And so to bed….
It’s a day full of story, magic, love, creativity, pleasure, engagement and soul-filled connection. It’s a day I have co-created with spirit – my desires met daily and with ease. It’s a day guided by goddesses.
