Remembering Hecate

“We will set the scene, create the space… We will enter in and journey deep. We will hear the voice of our own wise self and we will make much magic. For I am Hecate, and that is my way. That is our way.”

These were the words of Hecate, the first goddess that stepped forward for the Practical Magic Business Circle that I ran last Autumn. When I received them in my vision, I felt the truth of them all the way down to my bones. And yet, I could not have foreseen just how deep, how wise, how magical(!) the circle would become under her loving care.

By choosing to cycle through the same themes again this Spring, I am also giving myself the gift and profound honour of sharing the truly amazing goddesses that stepped forward for us last time, with a new circle that is already gathering so very beautifully. And I get to reveal (and revel in!) even more of their magic. For truly, during the live calls, the sharings within the circle itself, the 1-on-1 Practical Magic sessions and through my research, my personal enquiry and my own deepening into each goddess’ energy, I have discovered so much about these goddesses that I didn’t know before.

Yet another reminder that there is no destination…. only a journey of ever-increasing complexity and beauty.

When I shared that Hecate was the first goddess for this circle last time, I described her like this…

She is a goddess from Ancient Greece and resides in the Underworld, but with the capacity to transgress the boundaries between worlds. She is the compassionate witness, the guardian of the gateway, the initiate’s companion, and the midwife of our intuition.

She will be supporting us as we spiral deeper into relationship with our businesses, through our exploration of the theme of ritual. She’s here to support us as we tap into our profoundly wise hearts, as well as facilitating a truly grounded engagement with the material of our being – our lived experience of this moment.

Knowing that Hecate is helping to hold this circle, and to share her guidance with us, deeply fortifies me. Her presence shows me that this circle is going to be a beautifully strong container for transformation and growth.

Well, I can honestly say, my lovely, that she was all this and so much more.

So many aspects of her glittered into our awareness as we leaned into all that she could teach us… the ways she accompanies us through experiences of initiation, how she acts as our midwife while we birth the next phase of our lives, our businesses, our selves into the world, how she holds the space for lasting transformation, and just what a tremendous gift the witnessing of another can be – to both the one witnessing and the one being witnessed.

I held some awareness of how these gifts from Hecate are delivered and received, but experiencing just how exquisitely her presence in the circle touched all the circle sisters truly delivered me a new level of understanding. I also saw and explored for myself the incredible power of initiation through mythos – something that Clarissa Pinkola Estes describes as the process by which “deep templates echo the innate patterns of women’s most integral psychological processes.”  And not only that, we all received an experience of how supportive ritual can be – how it can deliver us new insight, give voice to our struggle, our challenges, our pain, and how it can provide us with new ground to stand on.
