What All The Buzz Is About!
Each Practical Magic Business Circle has it’s own animal totem. I don’t know why. All I know is that as it comes closer to the time to open the circle, one animal in particular makes its presence felt in a wide number of obvious and impossible to ignore ways. And each time the animal makes perfect sense.
Last time round, the animal was magpie, and throughout our time in circle, a pair of magpies moved into the vacant lot in front of my home. I’ve lived here for 5 years and in all that time, there have never been any magpies. These are the birds that teach discernment – being able to identify that which is ours so that it may nourish and support us in exactly the right way.

This time round, the animal that is stepping forward for the next Practical Magic Business Circle is….
HONEYBEE!!
So why honeybee? Honestly, because honeybees began turning up for me everywhere – I even found a crushed bee in the pages of a second hand book I’d bought through Amazon! They were on the linen at my mum’s house. They showed up in my FB stream constantly. They have even infiltrated my dreamtime!
However, the strangest occurrence of them so far was just a couple of days after I arrived in France.
I sometimes get quite achey joints, and on my 3rd day in France, my sacrum joint became sore and hot. My dad prescribed me a homeopathic remedy – a good one for hot swollen joints – called Apis. Yep – you guessed it. Bee! After a couple of days of taking the remedy, the pain disappeared.
Now, all of this is very well, but what on earth does this have to do with business? What on earth can a honeybee teach us about how to birth, grow, evolve, transform our entrepreneurial endeavours?
Well, an awful lot, as it turns out!
Not only are bees fantastic collectors of nourishment, they also pollinate for new life, new growth, and they are incredible organisers. Beautifully productive creatures, they work with the cycles of nature to ensure not only the survival of their hive, but also to contribute hugely to the food chain that we are all a part of. You’ve probably heard about various disaster scenarios of what would happen if all the bees died out – and that is because they are such key players in the continuation of the diversity of life on earth.
Honeybee is going to be supporting the circle sisters of the Practical Magic Business Circle by highlighting…
- organisational structures that not only support us but also bring us joy.
- the right nourishment for ourselves and our businesses.
- how our businesses can contribute to something larger than ourselves.
- the pollination of new ideas.
- the secrets of collaboration.
I also need to add in here that one of our goddesses, Amaterasu, is a goddess who is often symbolically connected to the honeybee. Known as Shining Heaven, she supports us to shine our light and step into the full radiance of our being. We will be exploring the theme of COMPARISON in relation to Amaterasu, accompanied by a fascinating conversation with Tanya Geisler and Lauren Bacon. So, honeybee showing up for this round makes me think that Amaterasu is going to be an incredibly important goddess for the women who are now gathering as part of the next circle.
In other words, get ready to shine, shine, shine! And if that feels a little scary, then that’s why we do this as a circle – we each give and receive the support each circle sister needs to feel comfortable in her own light.
