This is real magic. This is practical magic.
I wrote this in the final week of the last Practical Magic Business Circle…
“Last night was the final check-in call for the current Practical Magic Business Circle. For the last 10 weeks, we’ve been gathering every Monday to share what’s been happening in our world and in our businesses – our challenges, our successes, our sadness and our joy. It’s a powerful thing to be witnessed speaking your truth by a circle of kindreds. I’m not sure there is any experience quite like it. Because not only do we feel ourselves heard, but we also hear ourselves.
Oftentimes, a circle sister would get to the end of her check-in and say, “Well, I didn’t know I was going to say that!” And together we would laugh, because that experience is one that is deeply familiar to each. “Yes,” we say, “me too… me too!”
During last night’s check-in, I had this exact same experience. I began to speak, sharing all that I’d been working on over this past week, astonishing myself in the process by the sheer amount of it all, and then catching myself speak a truth that I didn’t know I knew. I found myself saying that my own goddess guiding me in my business over the last 10wks was Isis, and that as she was a goddess about re-membering self, coming back into communion with all the different parts of ourselves so that we may then lean into an experience of wholeness, that she had been supporting me to look at all the different parts of my work and to re-member it.
I was reminded of just a few weeks back when I was in France spending time with my parents there, and my dad (who writes over at Heroes Not Zombies) and I were having a conversation about the function of the two hemispheres of the brain. He spoke of integration as defined as “the creation of mutually beneficial relationships between well differentiated parts.” That, in order for integration to occur, and for an experience of wholeness that supports a full and compassionate acceptance and expression of self, then we first need to address the various “parts” – to see them anew, and to develop a relationship of particularity with them. We needed to see them as special to us in the beauty of their uniqueness. (The mandalic image of cow parsley at the top of this post was just one of my attempts to begin exploring this concept visually!)
As you can see, Isis was weaving her magic in all kinds of ways and in all kinds of conversations!
Upon returning home, I began to look through this lens of integration at each of the various components of my business offerings, beginning with my Goddess Guidance work. I knew that I needed to put in place the changes that I’ve been wanting to make for some time. You see, I’ve been holding a vision of what could be for the longest time. But only now, in the last few weeks of the PMBC have I been able to put that into action under Isis’ loving gaze.”
Since then I have overhauled my Goddess Guidance subscription, making changes that have long been in my thoughts but which hadn’t been fully brought into action. I have felt into the places where my art and my business meet. And I know what is calling to be worked next.
See? This is the real practical magic of being in this circle. The goddess that guides each sister, the beauty of our weekly check-ins, the deep grounding of our sacred business practice as we build in the sustainable changes we want to see in our work, in our art, in our way of showing up and giving our gifts, and then all the amazing conversations and realisations and revelations and understandings and knowings and surprises. This is real magic. This is practical magic.
In the last Practical Magic Business Circle, I allowed myself to really lean into my edges of holding the space *and* working my own material simultaneously. I facilitated exquisite explorations for each circle sister through our calls, through invitations into enquiries of the heart and of the womb and of the soul, through sharing the goddesses’ guidance the way I experience it, the way I know it. And I had my own journey also. I unpacked my business, I unfolded the places where it felt a little wrinkled, I tended to the parts which were calling for my attention and in so doing, I saw the whole of it. I do not even have the words to tell you how incredibly gifted I personally felt by my own Practical Magic Business Circle experience. And I cannot imagine the the beauty of the upcoming circle. All I know is that what will be unveiled will be unique and brilliant and true. Because after 7 circles, I have seen that this is so every time. Every time.
My own focus for my business this next PMBC will be putting my preparations in place for the 2017 My Word Goddess Readings, and figuring out how I can beautifully support a deeper and fuller connection between each reading recipient and the goddess that is stepping forward for them for the upcoming year. Every week I will commit to small steps, I will call in help, and I will celebrate it all. I will share my challenges and my success, my confusion and my clarity, with my circle sisters on our calls, and I will hear their voices and see their faces as they each share theirs. I will be guided by goddesses – my own special goddess guide and those that are offering group medicine for our circle. And at the end of it all, I know that I will be astonished anew by what I have discovered, and I will feel myself so profoundly met by my circle sisters, each of whom will find themselves similarly astonished.
I know this, because I see it over and over again. And because my circle sisters tell me so. Many who have chosen to spiral into these circles more than once.
