The point of selfies…

While walking through the centre of Saintes in the Charente-Maritime region of France, I came across this…

Selfie point

Of course, I had to stop and take one!

Selfie at Selfie Point

I was flicking through my photos on my camera this evening, when I saw this ‘selfie point’ image and accompanying selfie, which seemed significant as, for the last couple of days, I’ve been setting up the online circle in a secret Facebook group for The Goddess Self: Revealing the Face of your 2017 Goddess. Each circle sister there has an altar space there, prepared by me, and then there are various other admin posts and invitations shared, along with adding everyone in and welcoming them into the space. It’s busy work, but very fulfilling. But I just love hosting online circles, and pride myself on how I organise and hold the space there. The Goddess Self reflects this.

But even more than the pleasure of hosting an online circle of like-souls, I am so looking forward to diving back into my sacred selfie practice. I cannot tell you just how profoundly met I feel through this practice. It reveals to me aspects of myself that I have never seen before, and which greatly enrich my life, my sense of self, and my own personal connection to my creative self-expression.

So yes, there’s something very satisfying about exploring selfies as a solo practice. But when explored in a circle of kindred? Well, my loves, it meets us with even greater depth. The safety of the space, the exquisiteness of the sharing, the beauty of the bonding, and the revelation of the faces of our goddess self to each other… yes, this takes our practice to another level.

I know there are some who belittle selfies, seeing the act of self-photography as vain, attention-seeking, narcissistic even. This is a view I encountered often when I first began to share about my practice. And yet, I am so glad that I stuck with it, believed in myself, and trusted in the worth of what I was doing. For truly, it was this practice that supported me to claim creative sovereignty, to build my self-esteem, and to explore self-reflection through a visual medium. And when I teach this practice, this is what I see it bringing to others also.

This for me is the point of selfies. And yes, the kinds of selfies that we will be exploring in the circle will be really quite different from the one Seb and I took from the ‘selfie point’, as we’ll be exploring basic editing techniques to create portraits that correspond to our 2017 goddesses. That said, I still love this selfie of me and my boy – captured in this particular moment, in this particular place. He and I at the selfie point…

If you want to join in with the next Goddess Self circle, you’ll need to act fast and claim your space now, as we begin tomorrow!! Your exclusive invitation is included in your 2017 My Word Goddess Reading.
