    Smir

The tiniest of raindrops speckle my skin and lace my hair. Cooling. Soothing. Calling me into stillness. Almost like being dressed in the chill embrace of a cloud stooped low enough to kiss the breakwater. Out here, today, even the seabirds don’t speak. They hold their peace. A trio of terns skim the waves in silence… I watch them make for home, their sharp-edged wings slicing through the smir. They know where they’re going. They know where home is. It is here. It is here. It is here.

    The Words Are Waiting

Words hover at my fingertips waiting to be released into the keyboard so that sentences can spiral out onto the screen – whole stories fashioned out of the rhythmic tapping that punctuates the silence – a voice rendered in symbol and form – disembodied, yes, but potent all the same. So potent, that the fingers stutter, and long pauses begin to fracture the quick tempo already set by the eagerness of those words – those words that hang at the tip of a tongue lying still in my mouth: hemmed in with teeth: imprisoned by jaw. Where Even The Gulls Don’t Fly

I wrote this piece a while back, but it seemed a perfect accompaniment to the selfie I made today… With one hand outstretched, palm opened, dim light gently resting against luminescent skin, I am floating in the darkness, in the mystery. Perhaps there’s been a decision to surrender. Or maybe it was just my time. The water laps rhythmically at the edges of my mind – the cold clean clarity it offers is tantalisingly close, and yet I’m not even sure that I want it. Maybe They Needed To Be Triggered: The Creative Impulse & Why You Need to Keep Sharing

Ix Chel stepped forward for my Goddess Guidance group today. She’s a creativity goddess whose energy is that of the upturned urn that ever flows – the womb that continually births new life, new energy into the world. As is so often the case when a goddess steps forward, she begins to show up in a number of surprising ways. Like this morning when my daughter, out of the blue, stated how, when she creates something new, she feels compelled to strive towards her own vision of perfection. Things have to be neatly finished off, fashioned cleanly, the form beautifully expressed and elegantly ended. I shared with her my favourite…

First There Was New York – Next Stop Paris?

Now you might remember that last week I shared that 3 of my selfies had been selected as part of an exhibition in New York. Well, the same organisation See:Me is pulling together an exhibition in Paris. And I’d really love to be there. I’ve submitted 9 of my most recent selfies which I’ve created using double exposures, like the one above. I’m mixing together two images – a selfie and one other – to create a new image, one that situates myself in my environment. Why am I telling you all this? Well, because I’d really appreciate your vote for the People’s Choice Award. If you feel called to…
