Because Business Should Be Delicious

When I was in the end stage of my phd, I paid a visit to the university business enterprise centre. I had a meeting with a very nice man and explained to him that I had 3 degrees (BA, MLitt, Phd), over 9 years of education at undergraduate and postgraduate level, 3 years of university teaching experience, and presented papers at a number of international conferences, and I wanted to start a business that allowed me to make use of the knowledge I’d accumulated and the skills that I’d developed over the last decade. Something brilliant and completely unique. Something personal and mind-expanding and heart-opening. Something individual and brave and true.

He looked a bit baffled.

We discussed it a bit, but didn’t really get anywhere. And so I left, resigned to the fact that I was probably going to end up working in academia after all. It was only after I’d applied for umpteen lectureships and not even got on a shortlist, that I returned to the business idea of building something different and special that would allow me to express myself and my gifts, that would open up a way for me to be of deep service to others, and that would be sustainable and delicious and abundant.

Three years on, this is what my day looks like.

– A goddess visualisation connected me to the goddess Sedna, who gave me the vision I was needing, and the motivation to take action.
– I shared Sedna’s story and my interpretation, along with some prompts to invite personal reflection in my Goddess Guidance group.
– I wrote a newsletter – but I don’t really like the word “newsletter”, so let’s just call it a letter instead – to share the launch of something that’s close to my heart.
– Next up, I’m going to work on a Soulskin Reading, which means that I’m knitting up the softest yarn in a shade called “Water”, while making notes of all the intuitive hits that come through during the process.
– Lunch and check-in with my kids – a bright spot in a bright day.
– A walk out to the lighthouse and back to commune with the gulls and the terns and the oyster catchers. And the sea. Always the sea.
– More soulskin creation…
– Take, create and share my daily selfie.
– Check-in with the ladies of my Goddess Guidance group on how they’re getting on with their goddess of the month.
– Dinner with my children and my beloved. I’m thinking chorizo and halloumi salad….
– Start on the second of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instrument’s series, while indulging in a glass of Tempranillo and a bar of my favourite chocolate.

And tomorrow will be different. And the next day. And the next. Because I’ve crafted a business that supports the expression of who I am in the world. I get to choose each and every day how my time will be best spent. And by best, I’m talking juicy, heart-filled, luminous, compassionate, empathic, and unapologetically feminine.

My current offerings include goddess stories, poetry to evoke the senses, intuitive knitting, goddess guidance in a variety of forms, and practical magic business sessions, and I’ve just finished facilitating a group in the beginning stages of creating a selfie practice. An eclectic mix, right? But every offering is an expression of my soul’s longing to contribute to the world in a beautifully nourishing and loving way.

One such offering is launching today. It’s an extension of the Practical Magic Business Sessions that I offer, but with an invitation to dive deeper and to do so in the company of kindred spirits.

Just read what just some of the members of the 1st cycle said about their experience… (and I confess, I cried when I read their words.)

If you’ve ever been called rebellious, or feel like you don’t fit the business-girl mould, you will freakin’ dig this offering from Amy Palko. It’s wise, intuitive, practical and packed to the brim with insight. This is the way we should ALL be doing business, with love, passion and enthusiasm and most importantly in circle, with fellow girl-kind to support us.

I’m noticing more and more that creating an authentic, feminine business is all about balancing the regular practice of taking action with the time spent in the midst of inspiration and ideas. Amy models this balance beautifully both in her own business and in her holding of the PMBC. It will provide a space for you to focus and get clarity about what you want to achieve as well as magical inspiration for your soul to keep you going. I can’t recommend it enough.

The Practical Magic Business Circle totally changed the way that I see both myself and my business. My business communications have been received in a completely different way by my clients and my relationship with them has been immeasurably strengthened. The nurturing that both Amy and the other members of the group provided was just such a blessing! <3<3<3

I think you can tell just from this that we’re talking about an incredibly special offering here, and I would love to welcome you into the next circle if you feel it calling to your heart.
