Introducing Haumea

I am so incredibly happy to be introducing you to… Haumea!!

To give birth is, perhaps, the most sacred act we can perform in this lifetime. Bringing into the world new life is truly a gift of the goddess. And yet, we so often perceive of this new life in very narrow terms. In this story of the divine midwife, I invite you to connect with all the different ways you participate in the act of birthing, and that you honour all the varied forms this new life can take.

Haumea teaches us that the mother archetype is never solely the province of those culture labels ‘mothers’. (To read more about my beliefs concerning motherhood extending far and beyond the relationship between parent and child, check out this post I shared over at Roots of She a while back: Stirring the Cauldron)

I originally shared my retelling of Haumea’s story along with journal prompts, visualisation and creative exercise as part of my Bloom by Moon programme, before collating it, along with 5 other goddess guides in my Mothers & Crones more-than-just-an-ebook. Now, I’m making it available for those who want to buy the material separately.

What you’ll receive…

  • Haumea’s Story
  • Journal Prompts
  • Guided Goddess Visualisation (pdf transcript & mp3 audio)
  • Creative Exercise

My goddess guides are not interpretations of the stories, neatly packaged for you to swallow whole, rather they are materials and support to facilitate your own journey as you connect with each beautiful goddess.

An excerpt from Haumea’s Story…

Haumea, mother of all midwives, invites us to take our place in the circle.

We step forward, each of us coming to the circle in our own way. Some stride confidently, standing tall, their spines perfectly straight, aligned from head to toe. Some amble slowly, leisurely almost, the soles of their feet making perfect contact with the sand beneath them. Some seem to float, their movements so graceful as to make them appear as though they were not fully committed to remaining attached to the earth. Some scurried, strangely conflicted between wanting to be there, to hold their space in the circle, while also feeling that they somehow didn’t belong there.

When all were gathered, we stood looking at each other across the top of the low-burning bonfire, the singed remnants of driftwood occasionally crackling or collapsing under the heat of the flames.

Haumea looks at each of us in turn, making eye contact, sending a message of love, of support, of compassion, straight to the heart of each member of this special circle of women. Each time the message is conveyed, the expression on the face of the receiver changes, softens, opens. They become infused with a glow which begins around the upturned corners of the mouth and then spreads to their whole being. We all stand there, our auras illuminated and our egos set to one side as we prepare to enter into communion with one another – as we prepare to share our stories.

Into the expectant hush, Haumea speaks. “When you look at me, you see a woman, very much like yourselves. You see I have the form, the figure, the shape of a woman. But what you don’t see is that I am the mother of all mothers. I am the creatrix of life and I, my daughters, accompany you across that strange borderland between potential and the birth of the next generation.

Within each generation, my daughters have come together, very much like we are gathered here in our circle tonight, and shared their birthing stories. It is our way of connecting through storytelling, our way of saying, ‘Yes, I have been there too, and the experience escapes the language of my tongue – it was beyond words.’

Tonight, I invite you each to share a birth story in this circle so that through our sharing we can birth a new link in the chain of mother to mother bonding. Who would like to begin?”
