Anuket – Goddess of Open Arms

Anuket is an Ancient Egyptian goddess who is thought to be the embodiment of the Nile, the two tributaries of the Nile representing her arms spread wide in welcoming embrace. The Nile is the nourishing source which allowed the Ancient Egyptian civilization to thrive, as it was the fertile banks of this river that supported the growth of crops. In their worship of Anuket, those who could afford to do so, cast gold into her waters – gold which was later washed up on the shores further downstream. These gold gifts were seen as blessings from Anuket.

Anuket’s Message For You…

Are you willing to receive? Are you open to the blessings and gifts that are offered you?

Every day, every single day, you are blessed with the opportunity to receive, and so often the default will be to refuse. No, I couldn’t possibly… Oh, that’s too much! I really can’t accept… That’s ok – I’m sure I can manage… Thanks, but I can’t ask you to do that….

Sound familiar?

You are so wrapped up in your own story of self-worth, of not wanting to appear weak, of not wanting to be thought of as an imposition, that you miss the look of disappointment, of rejection, in the eyes of the one making the offer. You forget that when you reject the gift, the offer of help, the compliment, the blessing of another, you reject the giver also.

You forget that to receive can be an act of exquisite generosity.

And what of the gifts of the universe? What about the gifts of the goddess? Can you see the world around you as a blessing? Can you see the events that unfold as treasures to appreciate? Can you see that you’re already being given your heart’s deepest wish? But without open arms, how will you receive it?

You forget that to receive can be an invitation for more.

Anuket’s Favourite Quote: “Gracious acceptance is an art – an art which most never bother to cultivate. We think that we have to learn how to give, but we forget about accepting things, which can be much harder than giving…. Accepting another person’s gift is allowing him to express his feelings for you.” ~ Alexander McCall Smith
